Chasing the Divine in the Holy Land

Chasing the Divine in the Holy Land

A spiritual memoir about my transformative pilgrimage to Israel & Palestine.

I live in Northern Virginia with Doug Everhart, my husband of nearly 40 years, who’s a retired educator. We have two daughters. In retirement we often travel across North America in a truck camper named Big Blue.

In addition to my three books, I’ve been publishing articles since 2007. Highlights include two award-winning cover stories for Christian Century, an op-ed for the Washington Post, and Sojourners article about abortion. Other bylines include Religion News Service, Patheos, and Feasting on the Word

I’m a Presbyterian pastor who served churches for more than three decades, spread across four states and the District of Columbia. It hasn’t always been fun, but I’m grateful for my time in ministry. As of summer 2023, I’m “Honorably Retired.”

I most often address the church’s role in responding to sexual abuse. I also advocate for victims and survivors.

I worked with Eileen Campbell-Reed, PhD. to create a workshop that responds to sexual abuse in the church.

This self-paced workshop is four sessions (5 videos and 20 downloadable handouts) on these topics:

  • Challenging Patriarchy and Power
  • Empowering Prevention and Response
  • Reimagining Ritual and Liturgy
  • Envisioning a New Beloved Community

You’ll also receive a signed copy of my book, The #MeToo Reckoning. Learn more at The #MeToo Workshop.
