Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart, by themselves. And he was transfigured before them. ~Mark 9:2
Mt. Tabor is believed to be the site of Jesus’ transfiguration. The smooth-sloped mountain rises from a flat plain like an inverted bowl on a saucer.
The road leading to the mountaintop is a series of hairpin curves too sharp for a tour bus to manage. So we pilgrims must climb into taxis.
Previous generations of pilgrims would have spent days trekking up this mountain. We accomplish the ascent in just twenty minutes as the taxi driver zooms around hairpin turns. Squealing, we slam from side to side across the bench seat.
This is most definitely a shortcut. After all, we are 21st century pilgrims with a packed itinerary.
Would you be willing to hike up a mountain for days to find God?
Prayer: O Creator, forgive my rush to moments of glory.
