While We’re Arguing about Health Care

why don’t schools remove all their soda machines and install water dispensers that sell really appealing, really cold water, in a recyclable cup (bin nearby) for a quarter? (water fountains are very last-century)

why doesn’t the FDA unapprove high-fructose corn syrup? (it is more like a drug than a food)

why doesn’t the government end farm subsidies which would reduce the surpluses of corn in this country? (the Dust Bowl was ages ago, it’s time to break the farm lobby)

why doesn’t Congress add a “diabetes tax” to high-sugar foods? (one logical way to pay for health care)

why don’t insurance companies implement dis-incentives for people who are overweight and sedentary? (more fair to charge for categories within people’s control)
